WHATS ON?

About Us

In 2011 development of the Carnegie became a priority for Allerdale Borough Council and a Carnegie Users Group was established by representatives of local theatrical, dance and musical organisations and the general public. From that, a new group ‘Carnegie Development Group’ was established to seek to increase the level of volunteering support for the venue. As part of the development group a new Carnegie Friends Scheme was born to raise funds to support the venue.

Carnegie Workington Ltd

Carnegie (Workington) Ltd was established in 2014 by a group of those volunteers to develop a business plan to lease the entire building and transfer the operational responsibility from the council to a newly formed charity.

On January 15th 2015 Allerdale Borough Council Executive Committee accepted the business plan and approved transfer to a Charitable Incorporated Organisation (CIO) – Carnegie Theatre Trust (Workington).

Carnegie Theatre Trust (Workington)

On 1st May 2015 the Carnegie transferred to the charitable trust. Our vision is to provide a diverse and accessible range of high quality arts and leisure activities in a welcoming and inspiring environment; service provision and programme will promote social inclusion, interaction and engagement for all ages, shared experiences and opportunities to learn.

We’re really excited about the future and all the new things we have planned as the Carnegie begins its new journey. We would love as many people as possible to get involved and support their local theatre.
