WHATS ON?

Our Trustees

Our Trustees are responsible for governance and strategic direction of the Carnegie Theatre Trust and its subsidiary company Carnegie Workington Ltd (T/A Cafe Carnegie). The Board is accountable for everything we do, including setting our strategic direction, scrutinising our performance and supporting & empowering our employees and other volunteers to deliver our services.

“Do your duty and a little more and the future will take care of itself.”

Andrew Carnegie

We currently have seven voluntary Trustees on our Board. You can learn more about our individual board members by clicking on each of their pictures below.

Our ambition is to grow and develop our arts and cultural offer beyond the popular theatre programme, developing exciting partnerships which help us further flourish by expanding and engaging our audiences, developing arts creation spaces, and evolving our learning centre. Involving local people and enabling them to be engaged with our creative activities lies at the heart of what we do.

We are seeking a diverse range of applications from people with a variety of experiences: previous experience as a Trustee is not necessary.

We’ve prepared a helpful trustee role description which explains more about the role you will undertake. We also know that becoming a trustee can be quite daunting so any new trustees will undergo an induction to the Carnegie Theatre Trust, be encouraged to undertake regular training, and be buddied up with a fellow trustee to help you find your feet.

If you are interested in the role of trustee then make sure you understand what constitutes the traits of a good trustee by reading this document or watching Getting On Board’s ‘Boards behaving badly’ video to learn about ‘Know it all’ Nigel and ‘Detail’ Doreen. We’d highly recommend reading Getting On Boards very own guidance which is there to support anyone interested in becoming a charity trustee.

If you wish to express an interest, please forward your CV and a covering letter outlining the skills and expertise you would like to offer and reasons for your interest in the role of Trustee at the Carnegie Theatre & Arts Centre to Elizabeth.Hodgson@carnegietheatre.co.uk
