THE CARNEGIE SINGERS

FOUNDED IN 1974

Rehearsals are on Wednesdays 7.30 – 9.30pm, at The Carnegie Studio 1

The Carnegie Singers is a community choir of mixed voices from Workington and surrounding areas in West Cumbria. Founded in September 1974 by Gerald Gillett and named after the Carnegie Arts Centre, they have been a fixture of the theatre for over 50 years. The group are currently led by resident Musical Director Stephen Hunter, who is also a teacher and instrumentalist.

The Carnegie Singers perform several concerts throughout the year in Workington and the local areas, and you can also hear them singing at numerous community events including Workington’s annual Christmas light switch on. Members also enjoy several social events during the season.

The self-styled ‘friendly choir’ prides itself on a warm welcome to all members, no matter their age, musical ability, or experience. They are known for having a varied repertoire, which includes both modern and classical pieces. Singing everything from opera and musical theatre to rock medleys, folk and sea shanties, they promise something for everyone!
