Who We Are

The Carnegie Theatre and Arts Centre is the trading name of the Carnegie Theatre Trust (Workington) referred to in this document as CTT.   The CTT is the data controller responsible for all personal data processed by the Carnegie Theatre and Arts Centre.

When you book with the CTT, you trust us with your information. This Privacy Notice is to help you understand what data we collect, why we collect it, and what we do with it. This is important; we hope you will take time to read it carefully.


This Privacy Notice was established within the context of the digital information network (the Carnegie Theatre Site) operated by the Carnegie Theatre Trust (Workington) and the potential for gathering personal information within electronic media. It is not, however, limited to the website; it applies whenever you and the Carnegie Theatre & Arts Centre interact if there is a possibility that, during such interaction, we may acquire certain information about you.

Basis for Processing Personal Data

GDPR requires that the CTT identify a legal reason for processing your personal data.  We only keep and process personal data for customer where we have an existing customer relationship because you have registered an account with us or bought tickets from us in the past 6 years. Under both GDPR and PECR(ePrivacy) this allows us to cite “Legitimate Interest” as a reason for holding and processing your data.


The CTT is committed to protecting your privacy. We will ensure that our staff use and treat personal information lawfully and correctly. To this end, we fully endorse and adhere to the principles of data protection as set out in the General Data Protection Regulations (GDPR) and the Privacy and Electronic Communications Regulations (PECR).

In particular we will:

  • observe the conditions in the Act regarding the fair collection and use of personal information;
  • collect and process personal information only to the extent that it is needed to fulfil our operational needs or to comply with any legal requirement;
  • ensure the accuracy of all personal information kept by us;
  • take appropriate technical and organisational security measures to safeguard personal information.

Types of data we collect

Contact Information

When you purchase tickets, gift vouchers, merchandise, membership or other services through the Box Office at the Carnegie Theatre and Arts Centre, your name, email, phone number(s), address and email contact will be stored in our ticketing system.

When you register for an account or book tickets or other services online, data in our ticketing system is shared between The Carnegie Theatre Trust and Realex  – payment gateway and PCA Predict -address validation in order to process the transaction. Where patrons have opted to provide their details for mailings, data will be shared with MailChimp – email partner and Cumbria Mailing – brochure mailing & UKmail – direct mail partners.

TicketSolve acts as a data processor on behalf of The CTT who are the data controller.

TicketSolve, Realex, MailChimp, Cumbria Mailing Services and UKMail have implemented appropriate technological measures to protect against accidental loss, destruction, damage, alteration or disclosure. For more information, please see their privacy notices here:

Purchase History

We will maintain a history of all your purchases for the purpose of identifying those types of event and service which interest you so that we can target our marketing more effectively.

Work with Children

The CTT offers regular and occasional classes and workshops for children and young people. In order to facilitate these within the boundaries of child protection legislation, we collect information from parents and guardians regarding names, addresses, emails, birth dates, school attended, current health issues (for emergency reasons), attendance records, registration forms and photographic consent forms. We commit that this information will be confidential and outside of its use to deliver the classes legally and safely, the information will not be shared or processed.

Statistical Data

We automatically collect statistical data about usage patterns on our website through Google Analytics and bit.ly. This information is not used to identify any individual. It is only collected to provide us with an understanding of the areas of interest on our site and kept only for as long as required for this purpose.

If you are purchasing tickets for a Carnegie event, we use your personal details to complete the purchase transaction and to communicate with you about your ticket reservation, ticket delivery or other enquiries relating to the event.

In addition, whenever you purchase tickets, we may be required to share your personal details with a third party credit card processor to facilitate completion of your transaction. The credit card processor may share the same information with your credit card issuer for the issuer’s use in connection with gathering data related to use of their cards, rewards programmes or other purposes. You are urged to read and become familiar with the privacy policies governing the use of your credit cards.

We may occasionally contact you to notify you of information that might affect your event experience, or to notify you of event cancellations or errors in your order. In addition, we will send a season brochure to you and/or may contact you regarding future events or services that may be of interest to you. If you are not interested in receiving a brochure from us, you can opt-out at any time by contacting the box office on (01900 602122) or email boxoffice@carnegietheatre.co.uk. Your account will then be tagged and excluded from the mail out.


Parts of the Carnegie Theatre website will be of interest to children. We do not send unsolicited email to users who we know to be under 16. If you are under the age of 16, please get permission from a parent or guardian before you register with our website or ask us to email you.

Our website contains links to other websites operated by 3rd parties and 3rd party websites may contain links to our website. We are not responsible for the privacy policies, practices or content of such other websites, we encourage website visitors to read and become familiar with the privacy policies maintained by such websites.

Website Cookies

When someone visits our website (www.carnegietheatre.co.uk) we use a number of third party services to collect anonymously standard internet log information and details of visitor behaviour patterns. We do this to find out things such as the number of visitors to the various parts of the site, types of devices used, and length of time on pages.

Season Brochure & Postcard Mailing Lists

When you book to see an event, participate in a class or workshop or purchase a voucher, we collect personal information.

We will automatically send bookers from the preceding 24 months a free season brochure through the post and intermittent postcards detailing events they may be interested in.

You can request that you are not sent this information by letting us know at the time of booking or by contacting the box office on 01900 602122 or emailing at boxoffice@carnegietheatre.co.uk and requesting to be removed from this service

E-Mailing Lists

When you sign up for our emailing list, either at the time of booking or separately through our sign up form, we collect personal information.

We use that information for a number of reasons:

  • to share information such as upcoming shows;
  • to contact you if we need to obtain or provide additional information;
  • to check our records are right and to check every now and then that you’re happy and satisfied.

We also gather statistics around email opening and clicks using industry standard technologies to help us monitor and improve our marketing. This data is anonymised.
